We’re on the hunt for a Junior Software Engineer – Radar Production to join our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our Cantley, Quebec office.

MDA’s Radar Production facility is the primary processor of RADARSAT-2 data downlinked in Canada and responsible for the Data Reception Monitoring, Processing and Delivery of both RADARSAT-2 and RADARSAT Constellation Missions. As such, Radar Production is staffed to cover reception and processing activities for all downlinks to Canadian Facilities. 20/24 hr, 7 days/week. The facility, adjacent to the Gatineau Satellite Station monitors receptions, SAR processing, and the delivery of SAR data for these multiple SAR sensors. This includes processing and quality assurance of SAR data, near-real-time delivery of products and value added image analysis. These analysis products are the information extraction from SAR for clients requiring the capture and conversion of various formats, and techniques and applications of SAR, with a focus on Maritime Security using SAR for vessel detection. Radar Production also serves as a key interface for MDA Client Services and international clients regarding technical questions related to all satellites handled by GSI and often-requiring support for GSI development and project initiatives.

As our Junior Software Engineer, you will work on our programs such as Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, RADARSAT-2 and RADARSAT Constellation Mission. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

As part of your growth and development, we will work with you to establish your development actions alongside regular progress reviews. You are likely to move through various projects to gain the experience and knowledge to progress your career with us.


Role:

  • Create engineering solutions to achieve the mission of our customers in a cost-effective way
  • Follow industry and corporate quality standards and best practices
  • Plan work, provide effort estimates, and drive your work to completion
  • Design, code, test, integrate, deploy, debug and document high quality software
  • Troubleshoot problems in a fast-paced, continuous integration environment
  • Participate in integration, testing and deployment of applications
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems in the production environments
  • Learn, Identify and incorporate new technology in line with long-term goals
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of our development processes
  • Provide support to ensure stable, reliable desktop and IT infrastructure systems to MDA user communities and customers
  • Be willing to travel to Richmond BC and/or Montreal QC to meet other MDA teams, and participate in integration and verification events, as required

Responsibilities:

  • Experience in Python, JavaScript, or Typescript
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and service orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes and Rancher
  • Knowledge of microservice architectures and RESTful APIs
  • An understanding of modern software architectures, object oriented design, and software design patterns
  • Ability to quickly learn on the job
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Team oriented approach
  • Adhere to, and support, IT policies and procedures
  • Provide 24 * 7 on-call cellular support with remote access from home

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the SECRET status level, pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The candidate must hold a valid drivers license (Site is approximately 30minutes from Downtown Ottawa).

Desired Qualifications

  • A University Degree in computer science, software engineering, or a combination of related education and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Bilingual (English and French) is an asset
